Have some questions about buying carpet?

The first question to ask is, "What kind of carpet are you looking for?" This can be a daunting question, especially if you don't know anything about this soft surface. It can offer something for everyone if you know what you want. Here are four types of fibers that go into carpeting that should help you decide.

Nylon

Nylon is one of the most popular fibers for these broadloom products because it has been around for a long time. It holds up well to heavy traffic because it is so durable. It is less likely to mat down over time. It can be found in a wide variety of colors and patterns to suit you. It is considered to be the highest-ranking performer on the market.

Polyester

Polyester is also a prevalent fiber. It is very resistant to stains. Similar to nylon, it holds up well to heavy footwork. The number of colors that come in polyester will stagger you. It is highly resistant to fading in sunlight, so it's well suited for daylight rooms. Polyester is also considered more affordable.

Triexta

Triexta is a new fiber on the market. It is more durable than nylon, and yet it is more stain-resistant than polyester. It is indeed considered the best of both worlds. It has high competition with nylon and polyester and well worth a look.

Wool

Out of the soft surface we’ve listed, wool is considered the only “green” alternative to synthetic fibers. Grown naturally on sheep, it is the superior all-natural product for flooring. Wool has a deep look to it, with a feel that is hard to match. It has natural stain resistance and cleans well. It has an excellent resilience to it and holds up well over time.

Questions

The first question to ask is, "What do I need?" Do you have a large family with kids and pets? Or do you live alone? The next question to ask is, "What does my lifestyle dictate?" Do you have a very active lifestyle or one more laid back? "Where is it going in my house?” Are you putting it in the bedrooms? The hallway? Foyer? Living room? What’s the foot traffic in those areas? Questions like these can help you tease out what kind of carpet you need and what fiber would suit you best. From there, we can move onto the style you want and the color.
